Artist Statement:
The Night parrot [Pezoporus occidentalis], first recorded in 1845 is a relatively small and short-tailed parrot. Predominantly a nocturnal ground-dwelling parrot, only taking to the air when panicked or searching for water. The night parrot is one of the most elusive, highly secretive and mysterious birds in the world and is endemic to Australia. For around 100 years it was feared to be extinct. However the tagging and tracking of an individual bird in 2015 was announced and the most recent sighting was confirmed in March 2017 in Western Australia which created great excitement among bird enthusiasts and conservationists.
