The Critically Endangered Swift Parrot, although migratory from Tasmania to the southern states of New South Wales and South Australia, only breeds in Tasmania. Through habitat loss, this parrot's range is being invaded by the beautiful Sugar Glider whose habitat is being diminished as well, as a result the Gliders are preying on the young of the Swift Parrots, with devastating effect. Using glad wrap and dropping in pigment to create negative images established the background for this piece. The glorious colours of the Australian bush and sunsets are echoed in the feathers of this small parrot, as are the sponged in hints of flowering eucalypts, leaves creating light and shade.
