The Scissor-tailed Hummingbird is endemic to the Paria Peninsula in northeast Venezuela. It's habitat is humid forest with high trees 500-1200 meters above sea level. Although it's range is protected in a national park, illegal burning and habitat destruction continue to threaten it's survival. These little jewels glitter in violet, emerald green, and dark blue, with decurved beaks and long tails that set them apart from most other hummingbirds.
