Artist Workshops

Artist for Conservation is presenting two art workshops (age 16+) by international master wildlife artists: Australian silk artist, Kim Toft, and Canadian painter Terry Isaac.

Enrollment is very limited! Reserve your space ASAP!

Silk Painting with Master Silk Artist, Kim Toft

Date: Friday, November 10
Location: VanDusen Garden
Time: 10am-3pm
Cost: $115 (includes silk)
Capacity: 12 students

Kim Toft will be joining us from Australia to share her award-winning silk painting techniques.

About the workshop:

  • You will draw and paint on your own silk painting (approx. 35cm x 35cm)
  • No drawing ability required, due to time constraints the design is traced onto the silk , stencils supplied . All the stencils are nature themed ie. Underwater, birds, flowers, and forest.
  • The gold outline or gutta is then drawn onto the silk with a nib and applicator bottle. Each area between the gold is then painted, with silk dyes and brushes. The BG is painted last and is ‘salted’ to create a bubbled pattern. The rock salt is brushed off after it has dried.

By the end of the workshop you will have your very own finished silk painting to take home.

Lunch not included. Silk and stencils will be provided.
