The Artists for Conservation Festival represents a major expansion on the AFC's annual art exhibit and aims to take full advantage of an extraordinary congregation of international artistic talent, and environmental leadership and knowledge. In 2011, AFC will be engaging youth through a series of workshops and demonstrations.
During the Festival, students from Metro Vancouver will be immersed in nature-inspired art and partake in creative and environmental education workshops, led by some of the world's top nature/wildlife artists and naturalists. Daytime programming (10:00am - 2:00pm) between Monday, Nov. 7 to Sunday, Nov. 13 will be aimed exclusively at students and youth groups (grades 3-10). Programming during weekends (Nov. 5-6) and after 2pm weekdays, will be aimed at a wider audience, including youth, non-school youth groups, and young families.
Grouse Mountain has integrated the AFC Festival workshops into their "Adventures in Education" school curriculum and will be distributing information to schools and teachers within the Greater Vancouver area. With a goal to make this event as widely accessible as possible, Grouse Mountain has committed 250 complimentary passes to underprivileged youth from the Metro Vancouver area.
Outside of the registered student workshops, and aside from a few special ticketed events, Artists for Conservation will be providing Festival programming to the public at no charge (beyond any costs associated with Grouse Mountain SkyRide/gondola). For more information about youth programming, please visit the youth workshops information page.
