AFC Announces Partnership with International Ornithological Congress 2018

Created on Friday, 15 Apr 2016 18:44:48

AFC is pleased to announce a new partnership with one of the world's oldest and most important global organizations dedicated to bird studies - the 27th International Ornithological Congress (IOCongress2018) in Vancouver, Canada. Under the arrangement, AFC becomes the Congress' lead Partner for the Visual Arts. AFC's 2018 Festival and exhibit premiere will coincide with the  late August event.

The flagship event of the International Ornithologists Union, the Congress is considered the oldest and most prestigious of meetings for bird scientists. The Congress occurs every four years since first being held in Vienna, Austria, in 1884. Vancouver will be the first time the Congress has been on the Pacific Coast of the Americas. The Congress has broad national endorsement, including from the City of Vancouver, the province of British Columbia, Environment Canada, Simon Fraser University, Artists for Conservation, Tourism Vancouver plus an array of scientific societies and conservation organizations. Bird Studies Canada, the country's leading science-based bird conservation organization is co-host. The event traditionally attracts thousands of international bird scientists, patrons, researchers and birders.

The main event will be held in Vancouver's spectacular Convention Centre in the epicenter of the city on the waterfront. AFC is planning several large-scale initiatives leading up to and during the event. Birds will be the theme for that year's exhibit.
